Buildings do not simply come into being.
They are brought into being.

When designing new, I cannot ignore context and culture.
Nor do I wish to imitate them.

I give space to creativity
to dismantle preconceptions
and to build something new.

Old buildings carry patina,
even across centuries.
I do not want to destroy it or conceal it.

Where there is memory,
There is patina.
This I respect.
